Nirmalendu Das (B. 1951)

Nirmalendu Das (B. 1951) Nirmalendu, born on 22ndSeptember 1951 in Dist. Midnapur (WB). He stood first in the Fine Arts stream in 1968. In 1973 he received his Bachelor Degree in Graphic Art (Print Making) from Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan and in 1975, a Master's degree in Graphic Arts (printmaking) from M.S. University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Baroda. He also got a PhD in Graphic Art from Visva Bharati University (Under Junior Research Fellowship-U.G.C). He was granted Merit scholarship-West Bengal, Government, Kolkata; Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan; Ministry of Education, Government of India, Department of Culture, New Delhi & University Grants Commission, New Delhi. He was engaged in teaching art practical and theory since 1981 at the Air Force School, New Delhi; Government College of Arts, Trivandrum; Kala Bhavana, Visva Bharati University. He was the head of the department, Vice Principal, Kala Bhavan, Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan. He participated in more or less 60 exhibitions of prints and paintings in India & abroad including solo exhibitions. There are 6 awards for printmaking to his credit. He conducted and curetted 14 workshops and a camp on Graphic Art in India and abroad. He has conducted 16 illustrated talks/ lectures on Indian Printmaking in India and abroad. Das published 20 articles on Indian Printmaking in various journals, magazines and books in English and Bengali. His works are part of some of the Government Museums and private galleries in India and abroad. He was the member of the Realist; Board of Studies-Andhra University, Vishakhapatnam; Rashtriya Lalit Kala Academy-New Delhi and Chancellor's nominee, Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata. Prof. (Dr.) Nirmalendu Das is the Head of the Department of Graphic Art, Kala Bhavan, Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan.
